Overview

Benjamin Foucaud is a French designer and cabinetmaker. After a successful career as a Creative Director in the digital industry, he shifted his focus to crafting high end furniture and objects, collaborating with clients such as Wes Anderson. Foucaud’s deep passion for craftsmanship is closely tied to his family heritage.

Through his work, Foucaud practices design that explores new tensions. Rather than opposing functionality and aesthetics, he investigates more nuanced dualities: chaos and logic, individuality and the collective, truth and narrative, randomness and control, hope and tragedy. From these explorations, a range of formal answers emerge. Some pieces are shaped by chaos, revealing new design challenges, while others arise from spontaneous, expressive gestures. Certain works draw from the past, its myths and ornamental language, reinterpreted through a contemporary lens. The result is a diverse, eclectic and thought provoking body of work in which plurality and ambiguity are embraced as essential qualities.

In this way, design becomes inseparable from craft, existing in harmony with Foucaud’s handmade pieces and serving both as a practice and as a tool for ongoing transformation.
